Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on November 10, 1819 and confirmed on August 31, 1838. New arms were granted on December 12, 1969.
The arms are a combination of former estates and regions, in which parts of the municipality were situated. These are the Vrije van Brugge region (upper right), the Koekelare estate (lower right) and the 's Gravenleen estate (left).
The arms are derived from the arms of the Lords of Koekelare, who used three besants in their arms. The letter E in the chief was added to differentiate the arms of the other villages in the Koekelare estate, Koekelare and Ichtegem.
