Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 3, 1978.

The arms contain allusions to two local names: The Mühlrad (mill-wheel) stands for Mühlau, the Spaten (spade) for Spatenhof. The former was so named after important mills, the latter after its owner.

The church of Lieboch is dedicated to St Francis Xaver, a Jesuit and a missionary of the 16^th century who lived and worked in Japan. He died on an island just before reaching China; according to legend, a crayfish brought the cross of the saint to China.
