The Lion from the Norwegian Coat of Arms on a Black Background, was used by the War School in the United Kingdom during World War 2. The Air Cadets added an Arch with the wording Luftkrigsskolen above the insignia. In 1955 the Air Warfare School took this as a Badge. It was approved by King Olav V on 17 August 1977 and the modern format was approved on 3 July 2008 by the Chief of the Defence.
