MALGRAT DE MAR
Region : Catalonia
Province : Barcelona
Spanish |
Origin/meaningMalgrat de Mar has had several coats of arms during the last two centuries. The second coat of arms was most likely granted on April 28, 1849, as all towns without arms were ordered by Royal decree to adopt arms. The above arms combine the pales of the County of Barcelona on the left side, with the red and blue bars derived from the arms of the Palafolls family. Malgrat de Mar was founded in 1336 by Lord Berenguer de Palafolls as Vilanova de Palafolls. Parafolls castle as well as the village were sold to the Counts of Barcelona on March 31, 1381 and has been part of Barcelona County and Province ever since.
