Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on February 12, 1988.
The arms are canting for the name of one of the most prominent mountains in the municipality, the Rødøyløva, or Lion of Rødøy. As Rødøy means Red Island, the mountain actually means the Red Island Lion, hence a red lion in the arms.
