Origin/meaning
In the 12th century a castle was built in the village, which was used regularly as residence for the Archbishops of Trier. The oldest seal dates from the 13th century and shows a fortress, with in the gate the image of St. Peter, patron saint of the city. Later seals all show the cross of the State of Trier. The present arms show the cross in opposite colours to the arms of the State of Trier and have been used since the 16th century.
