Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on July 7, 1951.
The lion is the lion of the Welfen family, Dukes of Braunschweig. The village was on the frontier of Braunschweig and the State of Hildesheim and thus a stronghold of the Dukes. The two diamonds are derived from the arms of the Von Oberg family, which owned many possessions in the area from the 17th century until 1852.
