Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1957 when the city status was granted.

The upper half shows the protected 100-year old oak tree in Bergen. The skull in the base is a skull of a sheep and indicates the fact that the city is situated in the Lüneburger Heide.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
