German | In Blau linksgewendet ein goldener Adler mit roten Fängen, der sich auf einer rot-bewehrten silbernen Gans festkrallt und seinen Schnabel in ihren Hals schlägt. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on November 14, 2002.
The arms show an eagle killing a goose. The image already appeared on the 14th century seal of the city and was used on the seals and arms until the 18th century. In the 19th century the composition was coloured. The meaning of the colours is arbitrarily. During the DDR era the eagle was also coloured silver, but in the early 1990s the city returned to the use of the golden eagle. The arms were finally officially granted in 2002.
The meaning of the composition is not known. It has been speculated that the arms are canting; the name Kremmen is derived from krimmen, medieval German for catching. The eagle thus 'catches' the goose. Why these animals are chosen is not known.
The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925
