537TH AIRLIFT SQUADRON, US AIR FORCE

History: Constituted as 537 Fighter Squadron on 24 September 1943. Activated on 1 October 1943. Disbanded on 10 April 1944. Reconstituted, and redesignated as 537 Troop Carrier Squadron (Medium), on 26 May 1952. Activated in the Reserve on 15 June 1952. Inactivated on 1 February 1953. Redesignated as 537 Troop Carrier Squadron, and activated, on 12 October 1966. Organized on 1 January 1967. Redesignated as 537 Tactical Airlift Squadron on 1 August 1967. Inactivated on 31 August 1971. Redesignated as 537 Airlift Squadron on 30 March 2011. Activated on 29 April 2011. Replacement training, November 1943-April 1944. Provided intra-theater airlift for free world forces supporting Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) and provided resupply airlift for combat units, 1967-1971. Earned the Navy Presidential Unit Citation for resupply operations of the 26th Marines, 20 January-1 April 1968 at Khe Sanh.
