ITAPORANGA
State : São Paulo
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on June 10, 1974.
The purple lion, charged with an axe, is taken from the arms of the Baron of Antonina, owner of the lands now occupied by the city. The crosses symbolise the first chapel erected in the village. The escarbuncle is a canting charge, Itaporanga means 'beautiful stone'. The dates on the scroll indicate the city rights (1871) and the year when the city became a permanent seat of a judge (1890).
The shield is flanked by bean and corn branches, the main crops in the region.
