VARESE
Region : Lombardia
Italian |
Origin/meaningThis province was created in 1927 and the symbols for the arms were taken from the civic arms of the two biggest towns in the district, both dating from the Middle Ages. The main division of the shield is derived from the arms of Varese, as is Saint Victor, patron saint of Varese. The rooster is derived from the arms of Gallarate. The Italian word for "rooster" is "gallo", hence a canting symbol.
