County: Olecko

Coat of arms (crest) of Olecko
Official blazon
Polish blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms of Olecko (until 1928 Marggrabowa, 1928-45 Treuburg), show a castle with in front a small shield with the divided arms of Brandenburg (eagle) and Hohenzollern (quartered shield). These arms were granted by Duke Albrecht von Brandenburg-Ansbach, Duke of Prussia, on January 1, 1560 at the same time when he granted the city rights.
The small shield was the arms of his dynasty, the castle indicated the new city. The arms also appeared on the oldest seal of the city, dating from 1575.

During the centuries the basic design of the arms did not change, but the colours varied widely, as can be seen at the images below.
