History: Constituted as 53rd Tranport Wing on 30 May 1942, activted on 15 June 1942. Redesignated 52nd Troop Carrier Win gin July 1942. Moved to the Mediterranean theather April-May 1943. Served with the Twelfth Air Force until February 1944. Moved to the United kingdom Feb-March 1944, assigned to Ninth Air Force. Returned to the US Jun-July 1945. Inactivated on 27 August 1946.
