MARYLAND
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The above picture shows the arms on the seal of Maryland. The arms itself are the arms of Lord Baltimore, who started the colonisation of the present Maryland. The arms are a combination of the arms of Calvert family in the first and fourth quarter, and the Crossland family in the second and third quarter.
The original arms showed two leopards as supporters, but these were replaced by a farmer and a fisherman, as the sources for the wealth of the new colony. The motto "Fatti maschii, parole femine", which roughly translates are "Manly deeds, womanly words" remained.
