MERIJÄRVI

Region : Pohjois-Pohjanmaa
Former province : until 2009 Oulu

Merijärvi Kuntavaakuna / Kommunvapen

Official blazon

Sinisessä kentässä kaarikareisesta tyviöstä nou sevaan sinki]ään kiinnitetty rengas; kaikki hopeaa.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 27, 1967.

The arms refer to the tradition of going to church by boat. Near the local church there is still a large ring near the anchor place for these boats. This ring is shown in the arms.
