QUATTRO CASTELLA
Region : Emilia-Romagna
Province : Reggio Emilia
Official blazon
D'azzurro, a quattro castella torricellati di un pezzo centrale, aperti e finestrati, murati in nero e fondati su quattro monti al naturale. Ornamenti esteriori del Comune.
Origin/meaning
The arms are canting and show four castles (Quatro Castella) on hills: Montevetro (Montis Vetero: Montevecchio = Old mountain); Bianello (this, and not Canossa, may be the real place where Henry IV met Gregory VII in 1077); Monte Lucio (from "lucus" = sacred wood); Monte Zane (Mons Johannes, Mongiovanni = John's Hill).
