ILMAJOKI

Region : Etelä-Pohjanmaa
Former province : 1997-2009 Länsi-Suomi (until 1997 Vaasa)

Ilmajoki Kuntavaakuna / Kommunvapen

Official blazon

Katkoisen kilven hopeisessa yläkentässä musta karhunpää edestäpäin. Sinisessä alakentässä kaksi hopeista puunuijaa ristissä, niiden alakulmassa jalkajousen muotoinen hopeinen puumerkki; jousen kaksikaarteinen virittäjä vastapalkeittain tukin päällä, yläpää kiinni jänteessä

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 25, 1950.

The arms show in the upper half a bear's head taken from the old parish seal. The base shows two clubs and a symbol, both refer to Jakob Ilkkas, a farmer involved in the Klubbekriget (club's revolt), a farmer's revolt of 1596-1597 in which he was a leader. The symbol in the base is his personal mark.
