BOHUSLÄN
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were first used for the province in 1660 at the funeral of King Karl X Gustav. The arms show the Bohus Castle, after which the province was named. The whole design was taken from the arms of the city of Kungälv, as the province had become Swedish only in 1568 and no arms had been designed by 1660 when they were needed for the funeral.
