Origin/meaning
These arms have been officially granted on 9th June 1993.
The village was part of the county of Besalú. In 1682, Miquel de Salbà i de Vallgornera, lord of the village, received the marquisat of Vilanant; the arms show the marquis crown at the top. The arms are somewhat canting: they allude to the probable etymology of the name Vilanant, coming from Latin VILLA ABUNDANTE, "abundant village"; Vert is for meadows and woods, Or is for the abundance of crops, the fertile and sunny land.
