Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on December 21, 1990. Granted to the District Council on June 24, 1996.

Lying across the Orange River, south-west of the Kalahari is Namaqualand, an arid region, but one famous for its wildflowers which in spring turn the landscape into a riot of colour. The chief dancetty refers to the mountains of Namaqualand, while the supporters in this case are two Ludwig's Bustards.
