Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on November 12, 1976.
The branch is taken from the arms of the former Eschwegedistrict, the castle from the arms of the former Witzenhausendistrict.
The base of the shield symbolises the mountainous terrain (the Meissner) and the Werra river.
