The Thierrens council decided in 1923 to adopt arms. As no historical seals or arms were known, a contest was launched and 13 projects were entered.

The current arms were the winning design. The dog is taken as a symbol for the nickname of the villagers (the 'chiens', or dogs). The bordure nebuly is taken from the arms of the Lords of Grandson-Belmont, who owned Thierrens until the fourteenth century.

Origin/meaning

The Thierrens council decided in 1923 to adopt arms. As no historical seals or arms were known, a contest was launched and 13 projects were entered.

The current arms were the winning design. The dog is taken as a symbol for the nickname of the villagers (the 'chiens', or dogs). The bordure nebuly is taken from the arms of the Lords of Grandson-Belmont, who owned Thierrens until the fourteenth century.
