DE PANNE

Province : West-Vlaanderen
Additions : 1977 Adinkerke

Official blazon

Gedeeld I. in lazuur drie ruiten van goud 2. in zilver een leeuw van sinopel.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on June 11, 1991.

De Panne became a separate municipality in 1911 after separation from Adinkerke. As De Panne developed faster, Adinkerke was incorporated into De Panne in 1977. Adinkerke has a complicated territorial history. It was no separate estate, but there were 35 smaller estates on its area. Four of these had higher judicial powers, and the most important one was the Hof Marienhove.

The three diamonds are taken from the arms of the Cambdry family, who owned the Mariebhove from 1694-1753. The whole territory was part of the Veurne region (Kasselrij van Veurne) and the lion of Veurne was added as a second element.

Before 1991 De Panne used non official arms showing the lion of Veurne and a green/yellow field.
