Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on June 23, 1967.

The arms are a combination of the arms of the Lords of Romrod (a black castle in a golden shield) and the arms of Hessen. The Lords of Romrod ruled the city until 1358 when it became a possession of the counts of Hessen. The oldest seal of the city (known from 1553) shows a plain lion, later, 17th century, seals show the striped lion of Hessen. The colours are known since 1621.
