Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
SEEHAUSEN
State : Sachsen-Anhalt
District (Kreis) : Börde (until 2007 Bördekreis)
Incorporated into : 2010 Wanzleben-Börde
Origin/meaning :
The arms were officially granted on June 15, 1995.
The arms show St. Mauritius, dressed as a knight, as a supporter/protector of the city. The small shield shows a water-lily (Seerose), a typical symbol for the many lakes in the area, which also gave the city its name.
The composition of the knight and the small arms dates from the 15th century.
Until 1995 the city used arms with a similar composition, but with different colours, see below. Also the supporer was not shown as St. Mauritius, but as an undefined knight.
