SANT VICENÇ DE MONTALT

Region : Catalonia
Province : Barcelona

Escudo de Sant Vicenç de Montalt

Official blazon

Escut caironat: d'argent, un mont de sinople movent de la punta carregat d'un sautoret d'or i sobremuntat d'una mola de gules; el peu d'or, 4 pals de gules. Per timbre una corona mural de poble.

Origin/meaning

These arms have been officially granted on 29th January 1988.

Canting arms: they show a "mont alt" (Catalan for "high mount"). The saltire and the millstone are the attributes of St. Vincent, the local patron saint. The royal arms of Catalonia-Aragon (four pales Gules on Or) remind the jurisdiction of the Crown over the village (Sant Vicenç de Montalt had belonged to the royal castle of Mata until the 16th century, when it obtained a separated municipality).
