Origin/meaning

The flaming bomb suggests the unit's mission; the two lightning bolts respresent the unit's World War II combat action: the campaign streamer for Air Offensive, Japan and the Meritorious Unit Commendation for the Pacific Theater. The lightning bolts are red in reference to the Mertitorious Commandation and the Rising Sun of the Japanese Flag. The Gauntlet grasping the Sword symbolises the Unit's readiness and its determination to accomplish its military mission. The Torii gates symbolises the service against Japan during World War II. The Laurel Branch symbolises excellence and High Achievement. The Red demi-annulet honours the Battalion's Meritorious Unit Commendation and alludes to the Sun Symbols of Japan and the Pacific Theater. The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved 13 November 1986 and the Coat of Arms on 21 October 1999.
