63RD AVIATION GROUP, KENTUCKY ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

History: Formed 15 September 1986 as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Aviation Brigade, 35th Infantry Division. Redesignated as 63rd Aviation Group and relieved from assignment from the 35th Infantry Division on 1 September 1995. In 2007 redesignated as 63rd Theather Aviation Brigade, Kentucky Army National Guard

Official blazon

A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in width consisting of a light blue disc charged with a black Pegasus surmounted at top by a blue scroll inscribed "SURPASS THE STANDARD" in silver letters.

Origin/meaning

Ultramarine blue is the color traditionally used by aviation units, while light blue represents the sky and the unit's theater of operations. The Pegasus refers to the group's home and heritage as well as its mission and capabilities. The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 27 Jul 1995.
