BURGAU

State : Steiermark
District : Fürstenfeld

Burgau.jpg

Origin/meaning :
Burgau was granted townrights in 1424. The name of the settlement derives from a nearby Wasserburg, a castle with a moat. According to history the arms were granted on June 26th, 1494 by King (later Emperor) Maximilian I, but there is no written proof of that. The arms show a water well.
