Origin/meaning

The arms show an image of the Southern Cross, symbol for Australia, the country where the archbishop was born. The lion is taken from the arms of an Irish Cassidy family and is used here to symbolise the last name of the archbishop.

As cardinal he adjusted the stars, added a lion and augmented the motto, but the symbolism remained the same.
