GAMS BEI HIEFLAU

State : Steiermark
District : Liezen

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on November 11, 1991.

The arms are canting, showing a chamois (Gemse, "Gams" in the dialect) standing on mountains. Gams lies in Upper Styria, where there are a lot of mountains - and of chamois.

Gams, however, can have another meaning, a special stone (see for example Bad Gams). This is symbolized by a bordure composed of crystals of gypsum or plaster stones.
