Escudo de azul, pano de muralha entre duas torres, de prata, lavrado de negro, cada torre carregada de uma flor-de-lis de vermelho; em chefe, uma coroa fechada, entre duas espigas de milho, folhadas, tudo de ouro; pé ondado de prata e azul de três tiras. Coroa mural de prata de três torres. Listel branco com a legenda a negro, em maiúsculas : “ GILMONDE “.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on December 3, 1997.
The castle represents the Fria Castle, a large medieval castle which has been excavated and which is part of the parish. The crown is a symbol of the local patron saint, St. Mary.
The cron cobs are a symbol of the agricultural characted of the municipality, where corn is one of the main crops. The base symbolises the Cávado river that runs through the parish.
