Blason de Gironde/Arms (crest) of Gironde
Official blazon
French Gironné d’argent et d’azur de huit pièces, au chef de gueules chargé d’un léopard d’or, armé et lampassé d’azur.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The chief shows the lion of Aquitanie, the old district to which the département belongs, and at the same time the English lion, as the area belonged for several centuries to England in medieval times. The main shield is canting, this division is called gyronny.

The arms were designed by Robert Louis in the 1950s.
