GROSS-BIEBERAU

State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Darmstadt-Dieburg (until 1975 Dieburg)
Additions : 1971 Rodau

Wappen von Groß-Bieberau/Arms (crest) of Groß-Bieberau
Official blazon
German

In Blau ein steigender, rot bewehrter silberner Biber.

English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 10, 1957.

The arms show a canting beaver (Biber), which already appeared on the local seals from the 16th century. The arms showed the beaver in black on a golden field until 1957 when the above arms were granted (see below for the old arms). The new colours are those of the Counts of Katzenelnbogen. The village belonged to the counts since 1267 and they granted the city rights in 1312.
