HMS ALGERINE, ROYAL NAVY

English Blue; two ancient pistols in saltire all proper, surmounted by an Algerian sword proper.

Origin/meaning

The Algerine (Barbary) Coast of North Africa was notorious for brigands. The Dey of Algiers surrendered his sword to Lord Exmouth following the bombardment of algiers in 1816. The badge was approved on 21 Janaury 1942.
