HANNERSDORF

State : Burgenland
District : Oberwart

Wappen von Hannersdorf/Arms (crest) of Hannersdorf

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1994.

The embattlements refer to the medieval fortifications in the village of Burg in the municipality. The centre part of the arms shows a Roman stone, which is now built in in the parish church of Hannersdorf, and symbolises the very long tradition of viticulture in the area. The stone itself dates form the 2nd or 3rd century and may already have been part of the medieval church. Kaus (2001) provides a detailed history of the stone.
