Official blazon

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: On a red rectangular shaped embroidered device arced at top and bottom and edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) blue border, 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width, charged with a Viking Warrior, yellow mustache, hair and beard, with white horned blue helmet and white face detailed blue. Attached to the bottom of the rectangle, a red scroll inscribed “MONROE” in white letters.

Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description: A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height surmounted on a sail Azure, a demi-Viking helmed base metal, horns of the helmet Gules, holding a sword in dexter hand point up blade of the last, and a shield in sinister quartered one and four Argent and two and three Red crossed of the first. Overall in base a Blue tri-parted scroll, inscribed “JAMES MONROE” on top two scrolls and “HIGH SCHOOL” on the bottom scroll in base metal letters.

Origin/meaning

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: The school’s colors are red, for commitment and courage, white, for honor and caring, and blue, for loyalty and pride. The Viking represents the strength of the school, succeeding when everyone pulls together to excel.

Shoulder Loop Insignia: The Viking and the Viking’s shield represent the school’s strength and how the cadets can succeed when all pull together to excel. The school’s colors are red for commitment and courage, white for honor and caring and blue for loyalty and pride.

The Shoulder SleeveIinsignia and the Shoulder Loop Insignia was approved 9 March 2005.
