KERKEN

State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Kleve (until 1969 Geldern)
Additions : 1969 Amt Aldekerk, Amt Nieukerk, Aldekerk, Eyll, Nieukerk, Stenden

Wappen von Kerken

Official blazon

Gespalten von rot und silber (weiß), darin über je einer Mispelblüte eine Kirche in verwechselten Farben.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on November 16, 1971.

The two churches are canting elements (Kirch = kerk = church), for Aldekerk and Nieukerk. The two roses are the old symbol of Geldern and represent Eyll and Stenden, which were possessions of the dukes of Geldern.
