Origin/meaning

The arms were officially registered in 1986.

The arms show two canting lion's heads, symbolising the Ulvsund (Wolf's bay). The blue colour symbolises the water surrounding the municipality. The oak tree is a symbol for the many oak plantations in the area, which were used for building ships, after the defeat of the Danish fleet in 1807. Some of these oaks are still present in the municipality.

Literature: Zeuthen, 2000.
