Origin/meaning

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: Red and light blue are the school colors. The Viking is the school mascot.

Shoulder Loop Insignia: Light blue and crimson red are the school colors. The cross bottony suggests the Maryland State flag and denotes the school’s location. The star and sun on the bend represent the universe; the bend itself represents the future. The fleurs-de-lis symbolize the attributes of truth, virtue, integrity, and knowledge. The saltire indicates the path, leading in all directions, the cadets’ face in the perpetual pursuit of these qualities.

The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and Shoulder Loop Insignia was approved on 22 February 1995.
