Origin/meaning

Marktredwitz received city rights in 1384 and the oldest known seal dates from 1441. The seal already shows the above arms.

The eagle in the upper half is the Imperial eagle, as the city was historically an imperial possession. The wheel in the lower half is a canting symbol, Rad meaning wheel. All later seals and images have shown the above arms, although the colours have sometimes been changed during the centuries.
