History: Formed at Plymouth in February 1941. Retitled Headquarters Southern Maritime Region on 22 July 1970.

Origin/meaning

Drake's Drum used to sound warnings, is symbolic of the Location and Role of the Unit – operations over the Oceans (indicated by the fountain). The Badge was approved in August 1950.
