History: Formed in 1941 as No. 1 Works Squadron and renumbered as No. 5001 (Light) Airfield Construction Squadron on April 1, 1943.

In front of a bezant a desert ant in bend sable.
Motto: Fit via vi

Origin/meaning

The Bezant alludes to the Desert where the Unit operated whilst the ant allude to the Industrious Work of this Airfield Construction Squadron. The Motto translates as "A way made by force".
