Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 11, 1994.

Oppenberg is a very old municipality in Upper Styria, part of an ancient mining region. Its parish church is dedicated to Our Lady, who is symbolised by the star. There is a famous Gothic altar there, showing the Adoration of Christ by the Three Kings, made by Erasmus Grasser around 1490. The crowns of the Kings were also put into the arms.
