Origin/meaning

The arms of the city (German name Schneidemühl) show a jumoing red deer. The origin of the deer in the arms is not known. The deer appears on all seals of the city since 1671. The oldest seal, from 1671, shows the deer facing left, and walking. Most later seal show the deer jumping. Until 1800 the deer is jumping left, ever since it is jumping right.
