Born: 20 March 1934

Archbishop of Santa Fe, 1974-1993

Origin/meaning
As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the archdiocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.
The two figures inside the circle are eagles, one facing the future and the other the past. The other symbols are the castle and Stigmata from the archdiocesan coat of arms, and the other two symbols are the rose of Our Lady of Gauadalupe and a yucca flower, the state flower of New Mexico.
