Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 28, 1998.

The mitre, cross and crosier refer to the local patron saint S. Torcato. The spinning wheel symbolises the historical importance of the flax culture and production of cloth. The region was famous for its linnen and the tradition is still kept alive.

The cogwheel symbolises the local industry. The small shield shows the legendary arms of Don Sancho, the founder of Portugal and symbolises the long history of the parish. The wavy base symbolise sthe Selho river.
