Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 21, 2005.

The cog wheel and the plough iron are symbols for industry and agriculture. The three mountains refer to the mountains in the region and the valley in which the municipaliuty is situated.

The lantern is a symbol for the local patron saint, Our Lady of the Lanterns (Nossa Senhora das Candeias).
