WINDISCHGARSTEN

State : Oberösterreich
District : Kirchdorf an der Krems

Arms of Windischgarsten

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on December 2, 1968.

The crescent and stars are taken from the arms of the Pyhrn monastery, which had acquired the village from the State of Bamberg in 1435.

The three wheat ears refer to the legend that when Slavic (Wenden, Winden) people passed through the area on their way Soth, they lost some barley (Gerst) in the area. When they returned they found a rich field and they decided to settle here.

The ears already appeared on a small hill on the local seals since 1609. The city used these arms non officially until 1968.
